The Very First Time

The month of March has been quite special for me as it offered up a series of ‘first time’ events.
First NBA game, first Dodger Spring Training game, first time I’ve been 60.
It’s also the first time I’ve surfed in Arizona. No, not at the Tempe wave machine or any other water park, but actually rode some waves down the Salt River on the outskirts of Phoenix.
No they weren’t big or treacherous like the ocean waves I’ve surfed around the world, but I have to say that the experience offered its own element of fun and adventure. Small rapids, wild horses, and even a bobcat sighting made for a SUPer day in the desert.
The greatness of Stand Up Paddling is that now we can surf on any body of water whether it’s in the ocean, on a river, or any lake. We can surf, work out, fish, tour, explore. All it takes is a board, paddle and add water.
I want to thank some of the SouthWest SUP crew Rick and Robbie Weigele and Ken Russell, for a great day in the Arizona sun.
